So what exactly does this app creator do? Basically it simplifies the app creation process by providing helpful videos and an easy to use, drag and drop interface for building the app itself. The whole thing is free, and you don't need a credit card to sign up. Just drop by http://www.infinitemonkeys.mobi with your ideas and you can get started right away.
As a supposedly “professional” blogger, getting my content in front of my readers and keeping them delighted is critical for my success. I want to ensure that not only do I have engaging and relevant content for them, but that I'm actually providing value through handy links and services that help my readers with their daily lives. Most of all though, I wanted to find a way to put all of that great content in their hands where and when they want it, so that I can become a part of their routine, the place they reach for when they want an interesting new recipe for dinner that night.
Coming up with my own mobile app then has lots of benefits. It gives my readers, and dare-I-say “fans” with a quick way to catch up with my latest news and content. I can post special events on the shared calendar and links to promotions that they can access anytime and anywhere. What's cool is that it is more than just a “mobile friendly version” of my blog, because you can include your Twitter feeds, videos, photo galleries and more– placing them all inside a neatly bundled native app that sits on their phone.
While scanning through the dedicated "Monkey Market", where Infinite Monkeys apps are published, I came across all sorts of interesting examples of people dipping their toes in to the new App Economy. Some of the striking examples were from indie bands like Raoul & The Big Time, a Canadian blues band who built an app to promote their social feeds and upcoming live gigs. There were lots of other great examples too from bloggers, travel agents, restaurants and school alumni groups.
The possibility of now creating a mobile app for ANYTHING is pretty exciting, and I've already started thinking of a few different ways I'm going to use the platform for my next "special projects". I guess that now there's no excuse for not having your very own app.
